What should i do to prepare for hurrican irene since im staying home?

i have the basics, candles, water, radio, batteries. im near asbury and super scared. and id love to go to the evacuation center. but i cant because i have a severely autisc brother who is extremely violent every other second of the day and there would be no way to bring him in a confined space for a whole day. and if the huricane hits that basment is the best place right?

You might want to check with your local authorities. There are nursing homes set up to accept special needs persons who must be evacuated. Depending on where you are, staying home may not be a wise and safe idea. The evacuation shelters are not small, they are large places like gyms. I have concerns how your brother will do it he is confined to your basement for 24 hours will hurricane winds pound your house. This is a large nasty storm coming. Call your local authorities to see if they can find a safe place for you and your brother.
