How to keep candles from cracking?
After pouring the melted wax into the mold, when the candle sets, it develops holes throughout the candle.
That is not unusual for the larger style of candles, and is easily fixed. Firstly your wax should be liquid, not semi liquid, or thick. It should flow like water and not like syrup.
You must pour the wax slowly, or otherwise bubbles of air can be trapped. Then you tap the mold, either by lifting it and gently tapping the base on to the bench, or tap it all round with a pencil or such. You can also have the mold warmed so that the wax doesn't cool too quickly. This encourages any bubbles in the mix to rise and burst, giving you a smoother candle.
If there's an indent in the top when the wax has set, you just pour more wax into the center, and de-mold when that hardens.
